We call this piece Vampire Cocoon. The reason we call it this is because embedded into this item is the soul of a sanguine vampire, upon which has been cast an eternal sleeping spell. Unless interrupted by a human's energy that calls forth the vampire, the vampire will remain asleep for eternity. His name is Nico and he was born in the 1400s. I'm not sure of the details of when he was turned, how, or why. We were not able to communicate with him directly, simply because he is in a deep slumber and we felt like the piece would not be as authentic if the person who got this piece didn't get to wake him with their own energies. The reason we even know the vampire is in there is because Deedee was able to pick up on psychically.
