One of histories mysteries is the life of Caligula. Born Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, the ruler acquired the nickname Caligula during war. Not much is known about his tenure as Emperor as history seems to conveniently leave some things out. What is known is that he was a very vain ruler and ordered lavish palaces built for himself and worked towards increasing the absolute power of the Emperor. The rest of the story about his sadistic tendencies and his rampant perversion is merely hearsay. They could be true, but then again maybe they aren't.
What we can tell you for sure is that he was into sexual sorcery, which means that the parts about him being a pervert were probably true. Either way, it doesn't change the fact that he was a very powerful man when it comes to being magically inclined. With all the wealth of becoming the Emperor of Rome, Caligula was able to throw lavish rendezvous with very rich members of the Senate. These rendezvous included lots of alcohol and very liberal sexual practices. This allowed for the people in attendance to conjure forth gods and goddesses of all kinds.
The biggest secret that Caligula held was something called the Society of Caligula. These were his most devout followers. Both men and women, he'd have sexual affairs with these people often and the intimacy and energy between them would cause the most powerful types of magic. Then, there was the fact that the society held an original Living Artifact from the Cave of Remus and Romulus, which was ordered to be collected by Caligula when his reign first began. The artifact could give life, but the life was given in an entirely different kind of way.
This energy was a life after death type of scenario, rendering those who used it into eternal vampiric beings. The exception was that these vampiric beings fed not off of blood, but off of sexual energy, which is how the piece was activated in the first place. The twist was that this magic could not be instilled within the living, but had to be used by the living to reanimate the dead. This was shown to Caligula in a vision that was given to him by Romulus. This prompted him to start killing members of the Society, which might have prompted the rumors about him being a murderous tyrant and sadist.
After killing off his closest allies (almost like sacrifices) he used the magic that was taken from the Cave of Remus and Romulus and reanimated his Society. One by one he created extremely powerful entities using the magic that was given to him by the artifact. Nobody knew that this was happening because the members of the Society appeared as their normal selves, save for the fact that they didn't age, they become exceptionally strong, and couldn't be killed-- not even by any of the conventional vampire hunting equipment. They were virtually indestructible and immortal.
Eventually, the Society staged the assassination of Caligula at the young age of 28, then brought him back to life to rule the magical Underground. They remain the society of Caligula to this day. They mostly keep to themselves and their prolific and powerful magic. Having said that, they have initiated new members over the years. I'm not going to mention names, but suffice to say that you might be surprised at who is still alive that you thought has been dead, possibly for centuries.
