FILE/ Cathar Witch's Anointing
ORIGINS/ This piece was found in an anti-reliquary of the Cathar sister witches, somewhere in Italy.
Stregheria is a form of Italian American witchcraft. It is a very powerful form of the craft, but is not one that is usually referenced or sought after. This is due to the taboo that comes along with the magic, which is often to strong for even the most powerful witches to be associated with. It is the common belief that the practitioners of stregheria hold the direct bloodline of Satan, but that is a common misconception due to the fact that the ancient ways from which the magic was developed was perceived.
The magic behind Stregheria extends from the Cathar movement. This movement was a Christian dualist movement. It thrived in areas of Southern France and Northern Italy. In a nutshell, the religion followed the Bible, simply incorporating magic into it. The God of the Old Testament was considered to be the drive behind all evil forces and dark magic. He is the force that created humanity in its iniquity. The God of the New Testament is the sacred God, in charge of all things that are white light and divine. Through this sacred God, may all people be redeemed.
To the Cathars Hell is not the same Hell, but rather a cycle of reincarnation, where a person is reincarnated as another human being and reintroduced back into iniquity. They must remain in their mortal flesh until they come to the light side and obey the white light God. Then, when they die they shall be judged and will take their place as an enlightened being in the ethereal realms.
While in mortal form, Stregheria is the magic that was given to the Cathars, or at least some of them, to make life more bearable. This magic is capable of producing just about anything that you can think of. It can do charms, make curses, summon spirits, cast spells, and much more. It is the combined magic of both the dark and light gods, which is why we say it is a magic of duality. It can do both dark and light magic. It is the essence of both. Fearing they may catapult to a position of power, the Catholics incriminated them, calling their religion the Church of Satan. Most of the Cathars either converted or were killed.
The piece that is being offered was found among an anti-reliquary in a hall of magic that belongs to a group of sister witches. The do not go by any special moniker, but they are all descendants of the Cathar movement. They must hold a Cathar bloodline in order to belong to the sisterhood. The witches are all mortals who have been caught in an endless cycle of reincarnation. Their current existence is hundreds of years old, but their bodies keep regenerating in time with normal human life span.
The relic that has come from the anti-reliquary was once the anointing bottle of one of the Cathar witches. Her name is Erodiade. During her most previous life cycle she "found the light" so to speak, abandoning the rites of the sisterhood, who embrace duality instead of just the light. Attached to the anointing bottle is her familiar, to whom she has entrusted all of her knowledge of dual stregheria witchcraft. Her presence is imprinted into this bottle and is roused from the light realm where she resides when it is used. This piece will impart all of her knowledge upon you. You will know her ancient form of witchcraft that is dual in nature and can grant most things. Her piece made of glass and is 200 years old. It is one of the most powerful witchcraft items in our collection.
