The Exorcism and Angel of Madelaine Bavent

The stone on this piece is part of a relic that was used during the exorcism of Madelaine Bavent.  She was a nun in the 1600s who was sexually abused by priests and forced to take part in Black Mass.  Due to her enduring trauma and her part in the Black Masses, she was visited by the devil in the form of a very large black cat.  A fit of hysterical behaviors broke out within the convent she was part of and it wasn't long before it all went public, with the sisters blaming Madelaine.  She was found guilty of making a pact with the devil and was imprisoned, fed only bread and water three times a week.  She died not long after with her truth never fully being exposed that she herself was possessed with a demon.  However, before she passed away she was visited by an angel who expelled the demons from her with a holy relic that was brought from Heaven.  When Madelaine died this artifact was found, but never reported by the church.  They kept it in their secret archives.  The relic was dismantled and used to make a few pieces that were used for the purpose of exorcism.
